There aren’t enough words to describe and tell of what an incredible lady my Mum was. She always thought of others before herself, always sought to serve, encourage and bless. She never sought the limelight or credit for all that she did. She just got on with the task in hand.
• She was: a servant, an encourager, a teacher, an intercessor, a giver, a student of God’s Word, a disciple of Jesus, a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a mother-in-law, an auntie, a daughter of the living God, a little sister of Jesus.
• She was: fun, mischievous, loving, caring, kind, generous, compassionate, gentle, determined, a force to be reckoned with – especially when it came to standing up for her ‘boys’.
• She was: humble, a doer and sharer of the gospel, always concerned for the welfare of others, someone with a pastoral heart in its truest sense – it was who she was.
• She loved: her family, walking, her dogs, chips!
• She was: a cook, a baker (of great cakes), a knitter, a painter, a DIYer, a writer and director of dramas, a tapestry maker
• She was a volunteer for: St John’s Ambulance, WRVS, network counselling
• She enjoyed: puzzles, gardening, reading, the Bible, books & commentaries about the Bible, meaty sermons
• She was: an office worker, a home maker
• She had a heart for: the persecuted church, Israel, the state of our nation, the state of the church in our nation. In all these things she was an intercessor.
• In all her trials and suffering she: knew God’s presence, was an overcomer, was a battler, was determined, was an inspiration, was a trailblazer.
All of these words don’t even scratch the surface of who she was and all that she accomplished. But to me they help to sum up the great person, the great character, which come together to form just one word – that word? The person who to me always was and always will be – ‘Mum’.
I’m already looking forward to meeting Mum again and doing together something which we often talked about – road-testing our new resurrected, perfect bodies, without flaw or defect – and being able to enjoy a large bag of chips each instead of half a small bag between us! What a meal that will be!!
My most frequent prayer since Mum was called home has been one of thanksgiving – thanksgiving to God for His provision of such an incredible, inspiring, loving, and caring Mum.
